Female chef discusses glass ceiling in NYC restaurant industry

WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn — How about some beet pickled deviled eggs or fried oysters with kohlrabi slaw or duck meatballs “porcupine style?”

For the third year in a row, the Williamsburg restaurant Delaware and Hudson has earned a Michelin star.

Of the 13 newcomers to the Michelin guide of best restaurants in New York City, none has a female chef at the helm and that is no surprise to the female chef and owner of Delaware and Hudson.

There are a lot of really talented women out there,” Patti Jackson, chef at Delaware and Hudson, told PIX11. “But they are mostly unsung.”

Of the 77 restaurants in the five boroughs that now have at least one Michelin star only six women are in charge of the kitchens.
