13 Things NOT To Do in New York

Get more Tips here! www.destinationtips.com

New York City is often referred to as the greatest city in the world and we can see why. Just the energy alone is magnetic. But before you consider yourself an NYC expert, check out these 13 things you should not do in the Big Apple.

1. Don’t buy a Sandwich from Subway
NYC offers some of the best fresh delicatessens in the world like the Carnegie Deli, Artie’s Delicatessen and 2nd Avenue Deli on 33rd street. But avoid Katz’s as it has turned into a huge tourist trap.

2. Don’t Get into an Empty Subway Car
There’s a reason that it’s empty. Either the A/C isn’t working or there’s spilled bodily fluid or something is up. Trust us!

3. Don’t Stop on the Sidewalk
Do not be that tourist that stops in the middle of the sidewalk to look at a map or to take a photo. New Yorkers are speed-walking pros so don’t impede the flow.

4. Don’t Make Small Talk
New Yorkers are not necessarily known for their calm, patient, friendly demeanor, so don’t expect to spark up idle chit chat on the street. They’re usually happy to give directions but only to prove how well they know the city.

5. Don’t Eat at a Chain Restaurant
Locals avoid Times Square like the plague as it is a tourist trap with lots of chain restaurants and visitors wearing “I LOVE NY” t-shirts (oh, yeah avoid this too). Patronize the myriad of local restaurants to really experience the authentic flavors of the city.

6. Don’t Avoid the Outer Boroughs
Manhattan is usually what most people think of when they visit New York, but there are four other boroughs to explore too. Take the subway to Queens, the Bronx, Brooklyn or Staten Island and discover the unique charm of greater New York City.

7. Don’t Pay for a Statue of Liberty Tour
Avoid this outrageously priced tour and take the Staten Island ferry instead. The 50 minute round-trip ride passes most of the same sights and is completely free of charge.

8. Don’t Skip a Museum Because of the Entry Fee
The entry fee that you see for most of New York’s world renowned museums is just a suggested amount. You actually only have to pay what you can afford.

9. Don’t Use an ATM Inside of a Store
Some store owners that don’t accept credit cards but provide a convenient ATM inside their shops. However, it’s a trap! These machines often charge an excessive withdrawal fee!

10. Don’t Assume It’s Safe to Cross the Street
Many tourists wander across the street because they see groups of other people doing so. Fast-walking New Yorkers will make it safely to the other side because they have the well-honed instincts of a local. You, however, do not. Wait for the pedestrian light if you value your life.

11. Don’t Tell the Cab Driver Where You’re Going Before Getting In
This way the picky driver won’t be able to tell you they’re not going that far. Hail the cab, hop in and then explain where you’d like to go. Use the subway or walk as much as possible, because taxis will most likely end up stuck in gridlock traffic.

12. Don’t Be a Scam Victim
Don’t buy blank CD’s from aspiring young rappers or be fooled by the man dressed in a suit asking for bus fare. Avoid playing card games on the street and watch your wallet in large crowds. New York is full of scam artists, so keep your guard up.

13. Avoid the High Line on Weekends
This public park built atop an old elevated railway on Manhattan’s West Side is definitely worth strolling, but avoid the weekends when it’s a wall-to-wall tourist-clogged conveyor belt.

Now you’ve got the NYC street smarts, you’re ready for the city that never sleeps!

Restaurant Week NYC: A Sunny Spot In New York City’s Cold Winter

New York City’s Restaurant Week is a bi-annual event that showcases some of the best restaurants the city has to offer. The way it works is simple. Restaurants apply for a spot and the city selects them based on a variety of factors. This year more than 300 restaurants are participating. Restaurant-goers can can select from custom restaurant week lunch and dinner menus. Both are three-course meals. The menus are prix-fixe with lunch setting you back $24.07 and dinner, $35.00, a bargain considering some of the high end restaurants participating.
The tradition, which has rapidly spread to cities across the country, started 20 years ago as a culinary event for the 1992 Democratic National Convention. At the time 95 restaurants participated. Its following has only grown from there.
In the world’s tourism capital, Restaurant Week has had the reputation of being an event for New Yorkers. But, as the event grows, and as New York reaches new heights in tourism, it’s drawing more and more people from outside the city. It’s a welcome phenomenon, given the usual slump in tourism New York experiences in January and February. Of course it means New Yorkers will have to sacrifice some post-holidays peace and quiet. But as long as Restaurant week continues to boost the city’s economy, neither they nor their stomachs are likely to grumble.
Restaurant week runs from January 16 to February 10. For more information visit nycgo.com.

Benefits Of Eating Healthy | Shaka Burrito Restaurant NYC | New York City

Why? Since even somebody who does not know about foods knows that chips and popcorn are not advantageous to you and that you should eat your vegetables and fruits. What about everything else? Like the fats, oils for cooking instead of butter, the tomato is a fruit right? That’s 3 more. Everyone knows that we might or should be eating healthier. While yes those are good for you, if you are a diabetic a sweet apple only will not cut it and undoubtedly over ripe pears will not either. Many individuals know that garlic is beneficial to you, but didn’t know that ingesting garlic while on specific drugs can be harmful. Benefits Of Eating Healthy

Wait was that two more? Holy smokes nearly at 10 and we’ve not gotten to protein, sugars, salt, sugar, habits, diets, or drugs and alcohol. Attempt telling somebody who’s Lactose intolerant they just must eat beverage or consume milk or lactose regardless of what. That would probably not be on top of their list now, would it? So how do you know just what the advantages of healthful eating are? You know if eating carbs at breakfast makes you sick or if protein during the night gives you nightmares. If you are craving fruits or some kind of healthful food it is likely your body is craving that nutrient.

The people selling these silly anti-obesity drug or some other form of weight reduction or gain or muscle relaxant supplement on tv don’t know YOU. Going into a herbal supplement store is best as it’ll assist you in getting solutions BEFORE you take the plunge. They’re trained and have access to this information. Before making major changes be sure to speak with your doctor. Doctors are thrown with over 800 various new prescription drugs per year. That’s everything from pills for birth control to cholesterol medicines for gout to you name it. If they don’t tell you that the advantages of eating radishes may contradict with your prescription blood thinner, it is hard to be upset.

Red Bamboo, Vegetarian Restaurant in New York City

We visit Sheila’s favorite vegetarian restaurant in New York, Red Bamboo. It’s located at 140 West 4th Street New York, NY 10012. We usually order the buffalo wings as starters and choose randomly from the massive menu for entrees. Some of the dishes actually taste like real meat so this is a great place for vegetarians to bring their non-vegetarian friends.

Italian Dine-asty – Cipriani Restaurant New York – on Voyage.tv

Visit http://voyage.tv/ for the best HD travel videos in the world.

The scene reigns supreme at the glamorous SoHo outpost of the famed Cipriani restaurant empire, a sprawling, ground-level loft space with tables spilling out onto the neighborhoods main drag, West Broadway. Being the liveliest of the Cipriani clan of dining establishments and bars, this location can always be counted on for prime people-spotting and high-quality, if a bit expensive, Northern Italian cuisine. But the real reason to be here is the party-like atmosphere, which regularly draws boldface names like Denzel Washington, Gisele Bündchen, Nicole Richie, Leonardo DiCaprio and others. Fabulous Peter Beard photographs of Africa adorn the walls, while a glittering chandelier drips light on the attractive crowd sipping the house drink: the Bellini. Upstairs, the snug, Alpine-ski-lodge-style attic functions as an exclusive members-only club for the famous and the ultra-rich. On Sunday nights, it’s home to a supermodel karaoke party, where a who’s-who of A-list celebs and other glitterati types get together to guzzle champagne by the magnum and sing their favorite tunes.

The Menu: You will find most of the classic Venetian dishes familiar from the other Cipriani restaurants, but downtown offers a few nods to the slim waistlines of fashion-conscious SoHo. Note the special section of the menu dedicated to “gaining weight safely.” The lighter treats include burrata di bufala with soft polenta; fresh tomato salad; and tuna salad with cherry tomatoes and capers. If a bulging belly is of no concern, go for heartier fare, like calves liver alla Veneziana with grilled polenta; tagliolini with duck ragú; or veal medallions alla pizzaiola with rice pilaf. For dessert, crêpes alla crème are a sweet finish.

The Must-Have: Start with the carpaccio, which the restaurant claims was invented at the original and legendary Harry’s Bar in Venice, where the Cipriani restaurant empire was born in the 1940s. And of course, order a Bellini, a sparkling concoction of prosecco and peach purée invented by none other than Giuseppe Cipriani at Harry’s Bar as well. Named after a 15th-century Venetian painter, the sweet cocktail flowed freely during the heyday of Harry’s Bar, when the likes of Ernest Hemingway, Orson Welles, Charlie Chaplin and Peggy Guggenheim held court.
