Dirt Candy, in the East Village, NYC… is decadent and naughty Vegan and Vegetarian Food, with a Southern flair… their motto is “Anyone can cook a Hamburger, but leave the Vegetables to the Professionals.” Dirt Candy doesn’t claim to be healthy… deep fried Jalapeno Hush Puppies, Grits with Tempura Battered Egg… Every dish unique. and you needn’t be Veggie based to love it. It’s just super tasty, and heavenly good. But you must book weeks in advance to get a reservation in this tiny, 30 Seat restaurant. We celebrated a Birthday at the Dirt. In the March 2011 (this week’s) New York Magazine they got voted “Best Carrot” in their Best of New York Issue. Not like your mother’s vegetarian. Chef/Owner Amanda Cohen brings a chef’s touch to every single dish.

The Scottish-born and English-raised chef Ramsay opened his first restaurant at age 31 in London’s Chelsea neighborhood. The eponymous restaurant was awarded three Michelin stars within its first three years. Ramsay went on to open some of London’s most famous restaurants, including the Savoy Grill and Petrus. In 2003 he went international, expanding in urban destinations from Tokyo to New York to Los Angeles.
We visit Sheila’s favorite vegetarian restaurant in New York, Red Bamboo. It’s located at 140 West 4th Street New York, NY 10012. We usually order the buffalo wings as starters and choose randomly from the massive menu for entrees. Some of the dishes actually taste like real meat so this is a great place for vegetarians to bring their non-vegetarian friends.
